Wow, what to say about this book. For starters it is very, very good- even great. This book has sat atop my TBR pile for quite some time now but life got in the way of my reading. I finally decided to crack it open and was sucked in right from the start.
The story takes place in Appalachian Ohio where three bodies have been found on a boat. All three men were named jack. That’s just where all the craziness begins.
Enter Mel and Mick, two relentless reporters who want to crack this case wide open. They have a baggage train a mile long but it doesn’t keep the two of them apart and it doesn’t keep them from pursuing this story. They face threats, bullets, bombs, and arrests but they keep plugging along until they are told a story about a massacre during the Vietnam war that involved the fathers of the three dead men. Everything starts falling into place after that.
Mick and Mel ally themselves with a general at the pentagon but everything is not as it seems. Are they just being used as pawns in a much larger game? Who killed the Jacks and who hired him to do it? Can the government be trusted? All of these questions are answered in such a masterly way that each page brings new excitement and a new plot twist.
Once you start this book, you won’t be able to stop until you have all the answers you are looking for.
